How do you know how much help to give someone if they don’t show they need help?


My friend gave me a cactus as gift one year ago.
I thought that a cactus does not need much water so I water it once a month.
I did not know how much water was in its soil; I could not see it and I could not measure it.
It looked green and fine until last month when roots started coming out from the top.
“Hey, you need water, right?”
